Even if There Was No Rain in the Forecast, Why Did Noah Build the Ark? And What Does the Answer Have to Do With the Glass Business?
[A note from Paul: Elaine forwarded me an email paraphrasing a speech by Marian Wright Edelman that has become this blog. Thank you Ms. Edelman for your thoughts.]
The answer comes in five parts. And they are fairly simple. Read on….
Answer #1. DON’T MISS THE BOAT!
The economy is not coming to you. You have to chase it. And chase it hard. Begin collecting your pairs of customers, vendors, key employees and support people—before the rain comes.
Answer #2. WE ARE ALL IN THE SAME BOAT!
Hey, isn’t that the opposite of answer #1? Could be, if you think too narrow. In the big picture, if the economy of all of us is growing, we can all grow. Keep up with the changes in our industry and the economy. Keep up with changes in technology or those flood waters will be rising.
Answer #3. YOU REALLY DO NEED TO PLAN AHEAD!
Proof…it wasn’t raining when Noah built the ark. ‘Nuff said here.
Answer #4. DON’T LISTEN TO THE DOOMSAYERS!
No matter what you do, or how you do it, someone will complain. When you have a great idea, follow it. Gut instinct is the most valuable tool an entrepreneur can have.
Answer #5. THE ARK WAS BUILT BY AMATEURS; THE TITANIC BY PROFESSIONALS!
When a professional asks for something in a building that doesn’t meet code, or will blow the builder’s budget out of the water, speak up. You and your company have the ability to make a difference. Do it.
