It’s Halftime. Time to Review your Business Plan
Every year, we ask each employee to answer a simple question: What can we do differently?
It is always amazing that the people performing the job will always have some of the most creative responses. As an owner or manager, you may have a good handle on the business, but the people doing the work daily are real experts in their areas.
We are halfway through the year, and this is a good time to review your plan. What is working, what is not and what can be done differently in the second half to stay on plan? You don’t want to wait until the fourth quarter to find out you’re not meeting your sales or profit goals for the year.
Now is a good time to review how projects went in the first half, mistakes made and what you can change to correct them. At the beginning of the year, everyone is excited about reaching their goals for the new year. You need to recapture that enthusiasm and make some course corrections while there is still time for them to make a difference.
Getting everyone involved and letting them know how things will be measured for success is also essential to a successful plan. Even if you’re on goal year to date, successful businesses will continually look to improve. There is an expression that if you’re not growing, you’re going. Nothing can stay the same. You will be surprised by the results you will get from the simple question: What can we do differently? If you listen to the people doing the work and implement the best ideas.
