The Power of Thanks Never Gets Old
Labor Day is approaching on September 1. As always, it is a good time to thank your workers. Retaining workers year-round is important these days, as good labor becomes harder to find. To do so, it is important to create a culture of recognition in your business.
As I mentioned in this article last year, workers who are thanked for their work stay. We all enjoy having someone say thank you at any level. According to Eric Mosley, co-founder and CEO of Workhuman, “When somebody receives more than five formal thank you moments in a year, their propensity to leave is cut in half, from about 15% to 7%. If they receive up to 12 moments of recognition per year from a manager or peer, that goes down to 2%.”
Creating this culture in your business starts at the top. Thanks, begets more thanks. We all want to work for successful, positive organizations that we enjoy walking into every day. This doesn’t just happen without people at the top trying to appreciate the people in the organization who make it a success.
No matter how large or small your business is, creating a positive atmosphere will not only retain employees but also customers. People want to do business with confident, positive organizations. When you call firms of any kind, you can tell right away by the way the people answer what the work atmosphere is like in that organization.
Labor Day is a good time to recognize your employees for all they do and rededicate your commitment to creating a positive work culture that will bring rewards all year long. Bringing in a taco truck and providing lunch for all, or organizing a trip to a baseball game for your employees, is one of the best investments that you can make.
To retain and attract good people to your organization, give them a nice place to come to work every day and try emphasizing gratitude and recognition in your business. A good way to start is to say thank you sincerely and often.
