There has been a lot written about Glass Expo Northeast™ (GENE) ’26 over the past two weeks; however, I have been impressed by the amount of social media content that has been posted. As I mentioned after GlassBuild in late 2025, there are more people walking around with smartphones documenting and posting their takes than ever.
At GENE, I noticed more customers and vendors than ever asking to pose for photos. It was a fun show, and the social media posts about it are still going on. My LinkedIn alone has notified me of more posts mentioning me than I remember seeing, and most of them came from show postings.
This week, I listened to a podcast that featured interviews with several industry peers. The host asked them how important social media has become in keeping companies exposed and customers current on all activities. The guests agreed that posting almost daily with new and fresh information keeps companies relevant.
This entails just placing ads, but telling stories and updating customers on current events, new products, and, of course, keeping them up to date on the trade shows and what they missed. That’s because trade shows have gone from relevant in the short term to events that can give your social media weeks of content and reposting. This makes your investment in time a lot more valuable.
On top of that, promote culture. Simple things like taco Fridays or important anniversaries shared on social media are invaluable to display an organization’s culture and commitment to its business and employees.
If you are not taking social media seriously in your business, you are falling behind.
