Have you Tried AI Lately?

By Paul Daniels

This week, back in the office between trade shows, I had a chance to work with Google’s Gemini Pro, which I just got access to. I have played around with ChatGPT and Google over the last year, but with Gemini Pro, my eyes are now open to what artificial intelligence (AI) can do in business.

Gemini Pro is a lot more than listing good restaurants or filling in requests for information on people, businesses or directions. It reminds me of the first time I used Lotus 1-2-3. At the time, I was amazed at how it could add columns of numbers and even calculate your home budget in half the time it took with a calculator. We all know how this program went on to impact our lives.

AI is another giant step. With this technology, all you need to do is ask questions or explain in simple language what you would like, and it’s done. The program just asks you questions to clarify your requests or make suggestions on improving them.

For instance, I requested a simple sales report. After several clarifying questions, Gemini made some suggestions and showed me examples of what it would look like. Once I approved the report, it was generated in seconds. The program asked me if I would like a summary page, and then created one, also creating several charts that would explain the results.

Gemini went on to ask me if I would like individual reports by sales territory. I said yes. The only issue I had was figuring out how to save these to my computer so I could email them to the team. Gemini wrote that it could generate a program that I could run to accomplish what I wanted. When I said yes, the program was written in seconds with instructions on how to connect it.

This was an amazing experience. I didn’t have to read a manual or study how the program works; that was all done for me. This will help all businesses, large and small. I am not worried that it is going to take my job; I see it as a tool that will help us all get better at what we do.

I am heading to Long Island, New York, for the Glass Expo Northeast™. Please stop by the Frameless Hardware Company booth, and don’t miss my heavy glass door seminar. Thanks, and see you there.
